Perhaps the greatest thing about pugs is that they are absolutely wonderful with humans. Few dogs are as automatically attached to humans as the pug. This trait seems to be imprinted in the pug\’s genes. No wonder. Pugs have been bred for this purpose for centuries.
Historically, the dog has never played an essential role in benefiting humans. Its mission has always been to serve as a good family companion. It will not protect your property, though, will it? I doubt it. It may like to bark at unfamiliar stimuli, but if a thief comes within arm\’s reach, it will beg for an affectionate petting. In other words, there is still the option that the affectionate greeting will cause the thief to change his mind about his loot.
Pugs are lazy and stupid dogs!
But no! These oft-repeated prejudices are far from the truth. Long-term contact with humans contributes to their intellectual development. For this reason, pugs are increasingly being described as a very intelligent breed. If they are lazy, it is mainly the fault of their owners.13]
Upbringing[edit] There are many problems with upbringing. Pugs are little kids all their lives. While it is difficult to turn them into police dogs, it is not difficult to teach them basic commands such as “sit, down, come”. All it takes is a little patience and persistence. However, they are generally quite stubborn and will always defy you every time, even if they can respond perfectly to your commands.
Pugs have difficulty enduring solitude. If they are well prepared to endure solitude, they don\’t have to worry about vindictive malfunctions when they get home.
Interesting Facts
Various stories are known of this dog helping people in need. In England, there is a story of a pug that warned its master (Prince William) of an assassin in 1570, and the warning saved him from death in the nick of time. The pug\’s devotion is evidenced by his determination to get into the water. Even dogs that avoid water on principle will go in to “help” you if you go swimming.
